Sajnuben’s traditional Dhebaria Rabari embroidery was banned by elders of the community in 1995. But commercial work was allowed. Sajnuben stitched for wages, and then took a year-long design course and dreamed of becoming independent.
Though not literate, she then studied business and management at Somaiya Kala Vidya. Today, with family help, she operates a brand Shangar. In 2020 she created a piece for an exhibition at The Textile Museum in Washington D.C.
